MarketLive

New Orleans, Louisiana

Our third market. Every figure on this page comes from the current New Orleans qualification cycle, run on issued permit records from the City of New Orleans open data portal. The city updates the dataset nightly; the newest permits in this cycle were issued the day before the run. Other markets open only after their data passes the same checks; the markets section on the home page shows what is live and what is in preparation.

787
projects after deduplication
894
active permits grouped into those projects
107
duplicate or companion permit records absorbed
207
Class A projects, each naming a contractor of record on a building permit
580
Class B projects, trade-led or applicant-led, no contractor of record named on a building permit
0
Class C watchlist projects this cycle; an applicant is named on every project
The same run fetched 1,299 permit records and excluded 405 before grouping: 286 already finaled, 88 administrative records that authorize no construction (change of address, change of use, lead-based paint forms), 25 closed, 2 temporary certificates of occupancy, 2 inspections finaled, and 2 voided. The pull matched the city’s own count for the window exactly, and the grouping reconciles with zero unexplained difference.

How to read the volume honestly: the raw New Orleans feed is dominated by small trade and service permits (of the 1,299 records fetched, 293 are electrical service permits, 178 mechanical fuel gas, 165 mechanical HVAC, and 123 electrical vacancy permits), so raw volume skews to small trade-led jobs. The median stated project value this cycle is $12,000. By stated value: 432 projects under $25,000, 112 between $25,000 and $150,000, 86 over $150,000, and 157 with no plausible value stated in the record. Subscriber digests filter by value and permit type, so a trade sees the slice that fits its work instead of the whole feed.

The source land-use codes split this cycle’s projects as 635 residential, 132 commercial, and 20 unclassified.

More cycle facts: 93.0 percent of projects (732 of 787) name at least one contractor party, and 100 percent name an applicant. 80.0 percent of projects (630) carry a stated valuation, totaling $133,889,972 counted once per project.

Lead classes

How New Orleans projects are classified

Every project carries one class, and the class says only what the record supports. No class claims that any scope of work is unfilled.

Class A Contractor of record named on a building permit

A contractor is named in the record’s dedicated contractor column on one of the project’s building permits. The source carries that contractor column but never types the contractor as a general contractor, so PermitScope does not call these parties general contractors. These are the projects where the record names who is running the job and who hires the trades.

Class B Trade-led or applicant-led

No contractor of record is named on a building permit. A trade party or the applicant is named instead, which often means the project is being run without a single named lead, or the lead is simply not on the record. Three of this cycle’s nine largest projects by stated value are Class B (see the table below), so class follows the named parties, never the dollar figure.

Class C Watchlist

No contractor or applicant is named yet. New Orleans has no Class C projects this cycle, because an applicant is named on every record. The class exists in the system and will appear in any cycle where a record names nobody.

Trades served in New Orleans

Mapped from real New Orleans permit scope, hand-audited

These are the trades PermitScope has hand-audited in New Orleans. Each was sampled project by project against the actual permit scope text, the matching rules were corrected locally for New Orleans permit language, and the corrected counts were re-verified on fresh samples before any figure was published. Implied trades are PermitScope inference from scope text and permit types, and they are labeled as inference on every project card in every report.

Electrical Roofing Concrete Plumbing Fixtures Tile Pool Plaster

Matched this cycle under the corrected, audited rules: Electrical 291 projects (37.0 percent), Roofing 138 (17.5 percent), Concrete 54 (6.9 percent), Plumbing Fixtures 37 (4.7 percent), Tile 25 (3.2 percent), Pool Plaster 16 (2.0 percent). 489 projects (62.1 percent) carry at least one implied trade. Read the electrical figure with the disclosure above: it reflects the feed’s many small electrical service permits, not 291 distinct large opportunities.

Other trade labels appear in the data but have not been hand-audited in this market, so PermitScope does not market them by name here until they are audited. One label is excluded entirely: a glass label in the data comes in part from frameless glass railings in office renovations, which does not document shower enclosure work, so no glass figure is presented for New Orleans.

Territory in New Orleans works by radius around your base address. The source publishes no ZIP code for project sites, so New Orleans territory is never ZIP based. Coordinates are present on 100 percent of records, and PermitScope matches your projects by distance from the base point you give us.

Notable projects this cycle

Largest projects by stated value in the record

Values are the filer’s reported construction value, printed only when the record states at least $500. The party named is the project lead named in the record, where one is named.

Method and honesty notes

• Valuations are filer-reported construction values, not verified budgets. 27.1 percent of valued records carry placeholder values under $500 (most are $0); the 30 projects that rest on placeholder values only are flagged and never printed as dollar figures. 63 projects carry conflicting valuations across their permits; the engine shows the conflict rather than summing them.

• Only records with Permit Issued or Sub-Permits Issued status are treated as active. Finaled, closed, and voided records are excluded, never assumed active.

• A permit says work was authorized. It never says a scope is open, a bid is being taken, or a contractor is hiring. No project on this page claims availability of work.

• Address, scope, issue date, and coordinate completeness in the source are all 100 percent this cycle; the contractor column is filled on 85.1 percent of records.

A permit is evidence that a project exists. It is not a guarantee of available work, an unfilled contract, or an invitation to contact anyone. Projects are never exclusive to any subscriber. Verify scope and timing with the named party before acting. Status: PermitScope is in pre-launch. Registration is a launch waitlist; digest delivery has not started yet, and no paid subscriptions are being accepted yet.
